Galway’s live music guide: Sunday 24th March

Happy Sunday to all you beautiful Galwegians! The waning gibbous has begun so hopefully the madness of the full moon abates soon! After last week festivities Galways musical community is ready to lay the sonic salve on thick and fast with loads of gig’s taking place across the town today. Here are just some of those events…

The Salthouse Bar Sunday Music Session is back after their Paddy’s day hiatus. If sublime vocal harmonies and banging session tunes are your thing then be sure to get along to Raven Terrace and grab your seat early. Music from around 4:30pm

It’s trad session time in Carroll’s on Dominick Street at around 5:30pm or you can catch Sin a Deir Sí performing downstairs in Monroe’s Galway from 6pm. For your weekly fix of old-school Rock and Blues get yourselves along to E-Bruns and catch Richie Brennan and the Vibe Tribe from around 6:30pm. Pa Sheil and Fergal McDonagh take to the stage in the Quays Bar Galway at 7pm while Jazz at the Mill with Szymon Misniak continues in Il Vicolo from 7:30pm.

Doors for the TOUTS show in the Roisin Dubh open at 8pm “Unhinged, angry and visceral teens are Matthew Crossan, Jason Feenan & Luke McLaughlin. A singer that can’t sing , A mod that can’t play bass & a drummer that can’t see” 😎

Open Mic Night at Róisín Dubh is back and doors open upstairs at around 8:30pm. Be sure to check in early with Steven Sharpe or Trass Bee to get yourself on the list! Just down the road in the Crane bar you can catch local heroes Greg Cotter and Mary Flanagan when they curate their weekly Country/Folk session from around 9pm. Sunday regulars Half Mile Downperform in Taylor’s Bar & Beer Garden at around 9pm also. Jade Reynoldsjoins the gentlemen of The Rollover for songs and craic in Massimo Bar Galway at around 9:30pm

If you happen to be across the river then be sure to drop into Tigh Neachtainand catch the mesmerising Tom Portman and his band getting all bluesy from around 9:30pm. Galways best known astrologist bass player Turlock Holmes takes to the stage with upstanding members of Pyramid in the Quays Bar Galway at around 10pm. If you like your bass playing to be virtuosic be sure to check out Karl Clews and the Superfreaks doing their thing in the Dail Bar from around 10:30pm and we will be shuffling on stage in the Róisín Dubh at 12 midnight!

Well having barely survived Paddy’s night we are back again to dish out some more noise to all of you late night party people! Joining me in this evenings fun… Eoin Mccann on bass. Gabo GD on flutes, pipes and live action cam! Barbara Vulso on vocals. Bushkanga Rilla on sticks and stones. Mark Sullivan on guitar and moral superiority. Bertrand Huvé on sax. Danny Healy on trumpets. Delighted to welcome back Jack Duignan on keys for the evening and our very special guest on vocals tonight is the amazing Kadie O’Connor! <3

So there you have it! It’s another crazy busy day in Galway and as always if you guys make it to the end of the night, we’d only love to have the pleasure of your company in the back room of the Róisín Dubh where we will be doing our best to keep Monday at bay for as long as possible 😉
