Galway’s live music guide: Sunday 17th February

Happy Sunday to all you beautiful Galwegians. It’s a lovely bright and breezy day out there today reminding us that Spring is just over the hill 😉 As always Galways musical community is on hand to provide you with the sound track to your Sunday, here are just some of the events taking place today:

The Salthouse Bar Sunday Music Session continues to set the bar for the fire-side musical gathering. This 4:30pm session features an ever changing line up of supremely talented local and guest musicians and is guaranteed to get you in the Sunday mood! At 5:30pm you can catch the trad session inside the window at Carroll’s on Dominick Street. Just down the road in Monroe’s Galway the fine folks of Sin a Deir Sí get their trad session started at 6pm. Richie Brennan and the Vibe Tribe bring their old-school Rock and Blues set to E-Bruns Bar from around 6:30pm. Pa Sheil and Fergal McDonagh take to the stage in the Quays Bar Galway at 7pm for their high energy acoustic show. If you fancy a little Jazz for your Sunday then look no further than Il Vicolo at around 7:30pm where you can catch the KoKo Ensemble with Szymon Misniak and friends. Mouse McHugh kicks off downstairs in Monroes at around 8:30pm.

Doors for the Whiskey Shivers show at the Rosin Dubh will be opening at around 8pm while doors for the Open Mic Night at Róisín Dubh open upstairs at 8:30pm. Greg Cotter and Mary Flanagan continue their Country/Folk session in the Crane Bar from 9pm. Half Mile Down will be getting their trad groove on in Taylor’s Bar & Beer Garden from around 9:15pm whilst Jade Reynolds and the gentlemen of The Rollover will be on-hand to sooth your ears in Massimo Bar Galway from around 9:30pm.

If you happen to across the river then be sure to drop into Tigh Neachtain and catch the Invisible Jug Band getting all bluegrassy in the corner from 9:30pm. At 9:45pm Turlock Holmes and the smiling members of Pyramid take to the stage in the Quays Bar. Karl Clews and the Superfreaks kick off their funky set in the Dail bar from 10:30pm and we will be hitting the stage in the Róisín Dubh at 12 midnight!

It’s been a wild week out west and I’m delighted to have this weather beaten bunch of noise makers joining me tonight! On vocals and guitar Mark Sullivan. On bass Eoin Mccann. On Sax Bertrand Huvé. On flutes Gabo GD. on Keys Michael Corbett. On trumpet Danny Healy and on drums Bushkanga Rilla and our special guest tonight is the venerable Benjamin Turner!

So there you have it folks. It’s another super busy day in Galway and should you make it to the end of the night we’d only love to have the pleasure of your company in the back room of the Roisin Dubh where we will be doing our best to keep Monday at bay for as long as we can!
