Galway’s live music guide: Sunday 10th February

Happy sunny Sunday to all you beautiful Galwegians! Storm Erik seems to have blown away some of the January cobwebs and it’s the perfect day for wandering the city looking for your favourite music 🙂 Loads of gigs going on as usual, here are just a few of them for your perusal…

At 4:30pm The Salthouse Bar Sunday Music Session kicks off the days proceedings with some amazing Folk & Americana music from a wide selection of local musicians. Always a great gig! Paula Ryan and Ali Bulliventwill be doing something magical upstairs in the Róisín Dubh using Marimbas, Bodhrans and more at 5pm so be sure to get in early!

Carroll’s on Dominick Street continues to breathe new life into the west end with their Sunday Trad Session held inside the window from around 5:30pm. Over the road in Monroe’s Galway you can catch Sin a Deir Sí when they perform their weekly session downstairs from 6pm. Richie Brennan and the Vibe Tribe bring you all your favourite old-school Rock & Blues in E-Bruns from 6:30pm.

If you’re looking some Sunday Jazz you will find it downstairs in Il Vicolowhere Szymon Misniak and his friends will be bringing those soothing vibes from 7:30pm. Mouse McHugh brings his power-house set to Monroe’s Galway at around 8pm. Doors for the super popular Open Mic Night at Róisín Dubh open at 8:30pm and it’s best to get in early as the spots fill up fast! Steven Sharpe and Trass Bee will be on hand making sure everything runs smoothly! Greg Cotter and Mary Flanagan curate the wonderful Country/Folk session in the Crane Bar from around 9pm. Taylor’s Bar & Beer Garden has the vibrant Half Mile Down playing from around 9:15pm.
The Rollover get stuck into their weekly session in Massimo Bar Galway with the superb Jade Reynolds joining them on vocals. Kicks off around 9:30pm

If you happen to be across the river then be sure to swing by Tigh Neachtainand sample the musical delights of Benjamin Turner and Friends in the musicians corner from around 9:30pm. Turlock Holmes and his sonically super-charged companions ( James RichardsonFred Mc CloskeyAilbhe Hession) bring their rousing set to the stage in the Quays Bar Galway at 9:45pm. Bass virtuoso Karl Clews will be performing with the Superfreaks in the Dail Bar from around 10:30pm and we will be hitting the stage in the Róisín Dubh at 12 midnight!

After a wild and windy week it’s time to get ourselves indoors and into the safe hands of Ollie Longhair to make some serious noise! Joining me this week to raise the roof… Mark Sullivan on vocals and guitar. Bushkanga Rillaon drums. Barbara Vulso on vocals. Jack Duignan on keys. Eoin Mccann on bass. Bertrand Huvé on sax. Gabo GD on flutes and I’m delighted to welcome back our very special guest on trumpet Danny Healy!

So there you have it folks. It’s yet another super busy day of music in Galway and should you make it to the end of the night we’d only love to have the pleasure of your company in the back room of the Róisín Dubh where will be doing our best to keep Monday at bay for as long as possible! 😉
