Galway’s live music guide: Sunday 13th January

Happy sunny Sunday to all you beautiful Galwegians. It’s another bright and busy day out there today with loads of music to keep you entertained. Here are just some of the gigs going on across the town…

The Salthouse Bar Sunday Music Session continues today from around 4:30pm with some of the most melodious humans in the county getting together to do their thing next to the fireplace. The perfect gig to ease you into your Sunday.

Sin a Deir Sí take to the stage downstairs in Monroe’s Galway to perform their hugely popular trad set from 6pm. Playing his first gig of the evening Richie Brennan joins the Vibe tribe in E-Brúns bar from around 6:30pm where they will be delivering their weekly ration of old school Rock and Blues. Il Vicolo is the place to be to get your Sunday Jazz fix from around 7pm when Szymon Misniak and his musical friends will offering up some high class tuneage for your listening pleasure. 
Pa Sheil and Fergal McDonagh take to the stage in the Quays Bar Galway for their early evening acoustic session from around 7pm.

Mouse McHugh is on hand to deliver his powerhouse set downstairs in Monroe’s Galway from around 8:30pm. Open Mic Night at Róisín Dubhcontinues upstairs from around 9pm and is sure to fill up quickly so be sure to get your name on the list early! On hand to deliver wisdom and truth this evening the venerable Steven Sharpe & Trass Bee are the people to talk to.

Down the road in the Crane bar you can find Greg Cotter and Mary Flanagan hosting their weekly Country/Folk session from around 9pm. Jade Reynolds and the gentlemen of The Rollover will be getting the good vibes going in Massimo Bar Galway at around 9:30pm.

If you happen to be floating around up the town be sure and drop into Tigh Neachtain where you can catch Troubadour Gerry Hanberry performing alongside his friends Patrick Collins, George Mullaney and Richie Brennan in the musicians corner from 9:30pm. The deeply spiritual Turlock Holmestakes to the stage with musical maestros Pyramid in the Quays Bar Galwayfrom around 9:45pm. Karl Clews will be slinging those bass hooks tonight with the Superfreaks in The Dail Bar from around 10:30pm and we will be hitting the stage in the Roisin Dubh from around 12 midnight!

After a week of all kinds of musical adventures we’re in the mood for some serious grooving tonight! Joining our January skeleton crew I am delighted to have the following noise makers…. Bushkanga Rilla on drums. Eoin Mccann on bass. Mark Sullivan on guitar and vocals. Eanna Ryder on keys. Bertrand Huvé on sax.

So there you have it folks. It’s another jam packed day of music and craic in Galway and if you make it to the end of the night we’d only love to have the pleasure of your company in the back room of the Róisín Dubh where we will be doing our best to keep Monday at bay for just a little while longer 😎
