Galway’s live music guide: Sunday 23rd December

Happy seasonal Sunday to all you beautiful Christmas-ready Galwegians! It’s been a busy week in G-town as the influx of ex-pat’s hits it’s peak and it becomes even more difficult to walk up Shop Street without bumping into old friends and faces we only see at this time of the year.  And because it’s Sunday in Galway there’s a whole lot of festive events taking place and lots of peat fires burning to keep you warm. As usual the musical community is on hand to provide the soundtrack to your Sunday…Here is a list of just some of the events taking place today:

The Salthouse Bar Sunday Music Session kicks off the days proceedings with a festive bang! This session will always brighten your mood and for the day that’s in it, I think we can expect something very special. This eclectic session gets going around 4:30pm and features a wide selection of some of Galways finest purveyors of melody! Sin a Deir Sí take to the stage downstairs in Monroe’s Galway at 6pm where they will be banging out the finest in Irish traditional music for your listening pleasure. Richie Brennan and The Vibe Tribe perform some old school Rock and Blues in E-Bruns from 6:30pm. The SeshWans are back in The Blue Note Galway from 7pm to keep you in the festive mood. Oh, and they have Harp! Pa Sheil and Fergal McDonagh will be banging out those Christmas hits in the Quays Bar Galway from around 7pm. At 7pm Szymon Misniak will be performing alongside some of Galways best Jazz musicians as part of the Sunday Jazz at the Mill session in Il Vicolo.

Doors for The Academic‘s sold out show in the Roisin Dubh open at 8pm so be sure to get in early!!

Open Mic Night at Róisín Dubh kicks off upstairs around 9pm but get in early if you want to book a spot. The evenings proceedings will be lovingly tended to by the fabulous Trass Bee and Steven Sharpe so you know it’s going to be good  Greg Cotter and Mary Flanagan will be hosting their famous Country/Folk session in the Crane Bar from around 9pm. Jade Reynolds and the gentlemen of The Rollover will be on hand to entertain you in Massimo Bar Galway from 9:30pm. If you happen to be across the river then be sure to drop into Tigh Neachtainand explain to Andy how to build a fire! Santa’s little helper Turlock Holmes will be smiling his way through the night when he performs alongside those wonderful Pyramidans in the Quays Bar Galway from 10:15pm. Bass virtuoso Karl Clews will be getting all funky in the dail bar with the members of the Superfreaks from around 10:30pm and we will be hitting the stage in the Róisín Dubh for around 12 midnight!

Well it’s the last show before Christmas and I have it on good authority that the lads are going all out tonight! I’m expecting to see tinsel, glitter, pine cones and those delightful festive jumpers  Yes we shall be getting all christmassy tonight in the back room and it’s going to be ̶w̶e̶i̶r̶d̶ wild! So there you have it folks. It’s another busy day in G-town and if you guys make to the end of the night we would only love to have the pleasure of your company in the back room of the Róisín Dubh where we will be doing our best not to get added to the bold list
