Life in Direct Provision in Ballyhaunis

11 residents of the Direct Provision Centre in Ballyhaunis took part in a QQI Level 3 course in Media Expression at Claremorris Community Radio. The course was held in both the Old Convent in Ballyhaunis and at the Claremorris FM studios.

As part of their portfolios, the students had to produce a 1-hour show for broadcast, on their life and experiences in the direct provision system. The students have created a very interesting insight into the lives they lead in communities like Ballyhaunis, lives that are often overlooked or not understood, as they are mostly lived behind the walls of direct provision centres.

A native of Dublin, Mark has slowly been moving West since 1997. Schooled at Gonzaga College and CBS Dun Laoghaire, he received his undergraduate degree in Software Engineering from Athlone Institute of Technology in 2002. Mark spent a number of years working as a C# Developer in the private sector before deciding to undertake a research masters in Information Technology at NUI Galway in 2010.
