An early Christmas message from Emma at Spiddal Gift Shop

Spiddal Gift Shop is the brain child of Emma Allen. She spoke with The Eye recently:

6 years ago I was selling my handmade jewellery at a local farmers market all summer, but by November I knew it was time to give it up. Setting up my tent and table was getting to much as I was pregnant, even with help. It was coming up to the busiest time of year for a crafter and I had nowhere to sell my work. Light blub moment hit, set up your own shop Emma!!!

Maybe it was the hormones or trying to avoid the morning sickness but I sat down and made a list, topped up my phone and 2 weeks later I had a venue, 12 crafters and loads of posters – oh and let’s not forget the 7 and a half month bump I was carrying around too. With the full support of my wonderful partner Dan, family, friends and of course a load of crafty Galwegians, December 1st came and we opened our doors. What a success it was!

We are a pop up shop that runs from November 23rd to December 24th. Our aim is to give small business a platform to be seen and an opportunity to sell their work. We are based right in the very heart of Spiddal Village opposite the beach – upstairs in the Texaco garage.

This year will be our 7th year and with each one we have gone from strength to strength growing from 12 local crafters in our first year to 66 from every corner of Ireland by year 6. We are very lucky to have such great local and national support and have even posted some of our amazing stock overseas, Christmas cards ‘as gaeilge’ with art work of Santa himself jumping from the diving boards in Blackrock.

We have a wide rang of products from jewellery to outdoor chain saw carvings, with Irish brands like Ri na Mara, Jo Brown and Treats and Trinkets joining year after year and products ranging from children’s toys to men’s handmade ties and plenty of home grown, local food products such as cakes and jams.

Dan and I run the shop now, sometimes with the help of our two elves Abbie , the bump, and Dylan. We are open 7 days a week 9-7 Monday to Saturday and 12-6 Sunday right up to 6pm on Christmas eve.

We would love if you would join us this Christmas and let us take the stress out of your Christmas shopping!

Best wishes agus Nollaig Shona 2018 daoibh go léir
