Galway’s live music guide: Sunday 16th September

Happy sunny autumnal Sunday to all you beautiful Galwegians! It’s another grand fresh day out there today and you can nearly smell Halloween around the corner! 😎 As usual there’s a whole heap of stuff going on to keep you entertained, here are the details for some of them….

The Salt House Sunday Roots Session continues at 4:30pm with Noelie McDonnellNicola Joyce and Kelvin Busher providing the very best in Folk and Americana music to get your Sunday started. At 6pm you can catch Richie Brennan & The Vibe Tribe kicking out those old school blues in E-Bruns. Il Vicolo provides the best location for a little Jazz by the river with Szymon Misniak bringing the tunes from around 7pm. It’s back to the Salt House for round two at 7:30pm when the high energy crew of the Galway Street Club take over the musicians corner!

The legendary Brian Downey comes to Monroe’s Galway tonight for what promises to be a Thin Lizzy fans dream gig! Doors are at 8pm.

Across the road Martin Hayes will be performing with Dennis Cahill for another magical night of music in the Roisin Dubh. Doors are at 8pm and this will fill up fast so get in early!!
Open Mic Night at Róisín Dubh continues upstairs from around 8:30pm with the venerable Steven Sharpe and Trass Bee taking complete control! Greg Cotter and Mary Flanagan will be hosting their weekly Country/Folk session in the Crane Bar at 9pm. Jade Reynolds and the Rollover will be on hand to serenade you in Massimo Bar Galway from 9:30pm.

If you happen to be across the river then be sure and drop into Tigh Neachtain and catch the sonorous Mark McConville and the members of The Barnyard Quartet getting all bluesy from 9:30pm. Turlock“Aoibh Gháire” Holmes brings his winning personality to bear in the Quays Bar Galwaywhere he will be performing with the gentlemen of Pyramid from 10:15pm. Bass virtuoso Karl Clews will be kicking off with the Superfreaks in the Dail Bar at 10:30pm and we will be aiming to hit the stage in the Róisín Dubh for 12 midnight!

After another crazy week in band camp we are, once again, ready to bring the chunes to the back room for you awesome humans!! Joining me to make some sweet noise tonight are: Bushkanga Rilla on drums. Maciek Zaworonek on harmonica. Barbara Vulso on vocals. Mark Sullivan on vocals and Banagher blues. Eoin Mccann on bass. Jack Duignan on keys and our very special guest tonight is the Dobro virtuoso and all round good egg that is Tom” The Man They Couldn’t Kill”Portman!!

So there you have it folks, another busy day of music in our little city. And if you happen to make it to the end of the night, we’d only love to have the pleasure of your company in the back room of the Roisin Dubh where we will be doing our best to keep Monday at bay for just a little while longer
