Galway’s live music guide: Sunday 8th July

Happy sunny Sunday to all you beautiful Galwegians!! With the temperature taking a dip and sun stroke symptoms abating the summer has finally settled into the wild west and it’s like we were born for it!  As usual there’s lot’s of music taking place across the day to keep the summer vibes going. Here are just some of those events:

For those of you seeking to get out of town for a while consider paying a visit to the legendary venue Campbell’s Tavern in Cloughanover near Headford. They are running free afternoon Jazz gigs over the coming Sundays and with a 3:30 start time and a pizza oven on hand it’s a great spot to soak up those countryside vibes! Today’s show features Maciek ZaworonekEoin Mccann and Barbara Vulso…Not to be missed Headfordians!!

The early session in the Salt House kicks off at 4:30pm featuring the amazing harmonies of Noriana KennedyNicola Joyce and their musical friends. Richie Brennan and the Vibe Tribe will be rocking out E-Bruns Bar from around 6pm bringing the finest in old school Rock & Blues to Dominic St.
Il Vicolo continues to bring you the best in Sunday Jazz gigs with Szymon Misniak curating the steady influx of guest musicians to this medieval venue. Show starts around 7pm.
The second of the Salt House sessions get’s going at around 7:30pm and features members of the Galway Street Club so you know it’s going to get wild  Mouse McHugh will be performing downstairs in Monroe’s Galwayfrom around 8pm. If you are a performing artist seeking a safe space and a room full of amazing people then get along to Open Mic Night at Róisín Dubh which takes place upstairs from 8:30pm and is curated by these two awesome humans, Trass Bee & Steven Sharpe. The Crane Bar hosts their weekly Country/Folk session from 9:30pm with Greg Cotter and Mary Flanagan keeping things on track.

If you happen to be across the river be sure and drop into Tigh Neachtainand catch the sultry sounds of Ray Ó hAitheasa and Ciarán Ó Cuinneagáinas they perform with Weekend Lover from around 9:30pm. The men from Pyramid will be performing their kicking set from 10:15pm in the Quays Bar Galway. If you’re a fan of the Bass guitar be sure to check virtuoso Karl Clews performing with the Superfreaks in the Dail Bar from around 10:30pm and we will be taking to the stage around 12 midnight in the Róisín Dubh.

Well after another week of acoustic gigs, tidy set ups and miles and miles of road, it’s time once again to get super loud in the company of you very fine singers and dancers!😊
And what an exceptional group of noise makers I have joining me tonight. I am delighted to welcome.. Eoin Mccann on bass. Barbara Vulso on vocals. Maitiú O Báiréil on sax and clarinet. Eanna Ryder on keys. Gabo GD on flutes. Bertrand Huvé on sax. Maciek Zaworonekon harmonica and Bushkanga Rilla on drums.

So there you have it folks. It’s a full day of music and if you make it the end we’d only love to have the pleasure of your company in the back room of the Róisín Dubh where will be doing our best to keep Monday at bay for just a little while longer!
