Galway’s live music guide: Sunday 13th May

Happy Sunday to all you beautiful sunkissed Galwegians! It’s shaping up to be another perfect day for round two of the phenomenon that is Ed Sheeran. The city is alive with the sound of buskers young and old taking this opportunity to show why Galway is famous across the world (Galway City Council take note!) Along-side the Ed festivities there is a heap of gigs taking place throughout the day to keep you all entertained. Here are just some of the events going on:

Noriana KennedyNoelie McDonnell and friends gather at 4:30pm for Salt House Bar Sunday Music Session. Playing a selection of the finest Folk and Americana songs these guys are the perfect way to get your Sunday started. The Vibe Tribe featuring Richie Brennan will be bringing their old school Rock/Blues set to E Brún Bar from around 6pm. The Blue Note Galwayhosts a garden party from 7pm with music by the inimitable Dylan&Sharpie. For some sophisticated Jazz washed down with one of their famous Spritzers, get along to Galway’s only riverside venue Il Vicolo and catch Szymon Misniak and friends making music from around 7:30pm. At 8pm doors open upstairs for Open Mic Night at Róisín Dubh where the venerable Steven Sharpe and Trass Bee will curate some of Galway’s finest emerging talent. Monroe’s Galway is where you can see Tuam native Mouse McHugh doing his thing downstairs from around 8:30pm.

M. Ward is bringing his super intimate show to the Róisín Dubh tonight. Doors at 8pm. The Great Ginger GAA Social 2018 is taking place in Pearse Stadium from 8:45pm. The Crane Bar plays host to one of the friendliest sessions in the country with Greg Cotter and Mary Flanagan keeping things flowing. If you happen to be across the river then drop into Tigh Neachtainwhere V and his band of merry men will be playing some Swedish Gypsy Folk hip-hop from around 9:30pm. James RichardsonTurlock Holmes and the members of Pyramid take to the stage in the Quays Bar Galway at 10:30pm. Bass virtuoso Karl Clews performs with the Superfreaks in The Dáil Bar Galway from 10:30pm and we will hit the stage in the Roisin at 12 midnight!

Well, it’s been another crazy week in band camp as we mined the musical depths to find something by Ed that we could work over for you tonight…

We tried.

We failed.

So, tonight we are going to play absolutely nothing by Ed. It’ll be a challenge but we’ll do our best 😁 Joining me in tonight’s boycott, the following rebels… Gabo GD on flutes. Mark Sullivan on guitar and Banagher blues. Eoin Mccann on bass. Michael Corbett on keys. Barbara Vulso on vocals and all things Eurovision. Bushkanga Rilla on drums. Bertrand Huvé on sax. Our special guest is harmonica virtuoso Maciek Zaworonek.

So there you have it folks! It’s another busy one in Galway and if you haven’t had TOO much fun by the time midnight rolls around then come and join us in the Róisín Dubh where will be doing our best to keep Monday at bay for just a little while longer 😎

Doors: 11:30pm

There will be singing.
There will be dancing.
