Galway’s live music guide: Sunday 25th March

Happy sunny Sunday to all you beautiful Spring-ready Galwegians! It’s the perfect day to get out and shake off the cabin fever of the last few months. As always, the musical community of Galway is on hand to provide you with a wide and varied soundtrack for your Sunday! Here are just some of the gigs taking place over the course of the day:

At 1pm the delightful Michelle Lally brings you gently into Sunday afternoon with her Jazz Brunch gig in SALT Restaurant & Bar. The sublime Salt House session continues at 4:30pm and features the gorgeous harmonising of Noriana Kennedy and multi-talented friends. Noriana is one-third of the band The Whileaways and as of today, they are just 7 days away from meeting their Kickstarter target to fund their latest album. These guys are a huge part of the music of Galway and the west of Ireland so let’s get behind them and then we can hear more of their beautiful original music!  You can find all the details on their FB page.

Richie Brennan and the Vibe Tribe are back in E Brún Bar playing the finest in old-school Rock and Blues from 6:30pm. Sunday Jazz at Il Vicolo is back with a bang and gets going around 7pm with Szymon Misniak putting all the pieces in place. The Blue Note is where you can kick back and enjoy the music of The SeshWans from 7pm. The Black Gate Cultural Centre presents Luan Parle and Clive Barnes tonight at 8pm for what promises to be yet another incredibly intimate gig in Galway’s answer to the Lobby in Cork circa ’90.

All Tvvins are performing in the Roisin Dubh tonight from 8pm. This will be nuts! 😁 Open Mic Night at Róisín Dubh continues upstairs from 8:30pm with the saintly Steven Sharpe and Trass Bee maintaining order as only they can. 😊

Monroe’s Galway plays host to Tuam native and musical powerhouse Mouse McHugh from 8:30pm. If you’re a fan of the intimate session in the corner then drop into the Crane Bar and check out Greg Cotter and Mary Flanagan as they curate their Country/Folk session from around 9pm.

Should you happen across the river then be sure to drop into Tigh Neachtain where you can catch La Orquesta Kalamares from around 9:30pm. Fred Mc Closkey and his geometrical friends will be hotting things up in the Quays Bar from 10:30pm or you can catch The Lewd Tunes in Buskers from around the same time. Bass player virtuoso Karl Clews and the Superfreaks will be kicking off in The Dáil Bar at 10:30pm and we will be aiming to be on stage for 12 midnight in the Roisin Dubh! 😎

Well it’s been another crazy week in band camp but the Sun is out, socks and sandals are making a comeback and the lovely people at The Galway Eye are spreading the vibes for us now too! With all this good energy I’m delighted to be joined by these lovely people to make some serious noise tonight…Bushkanga Rilla on drums. Mark Sullivan on guitar and Banagher Blues. Eoin Mccann on bass. Barbara Vulso on vocals. Bertrand Huvé on sax. Gabo GD on flutes. Tom Portman on dobro. Michael Corbett on keys and our very special guest tonight on vocals is the awesome Tracy Bruen!

So there you have it folks! It’s a packed schedule and if you make it to the end of the night we’d only love to have the pleasure of your company in the Roisin Dubh where will be doing our best to keep Monday at bay for just a little while longer…
