A Fruity 2018!

Get kids eating more fruit and veg with smoothies!

Someone recently asked, how to get their kids to try smoothies and introduce more fruit and veg into their diet these cold winter months. I suggested that they get their kids involved.

Start by buying lots of colourful fruit (fresh and frozen), greek yogurt and coconut milk. Start making a smoothie for your and ask your children what fruit would they suggest, you put into your smoothie. This will get them involved and generally introduce them to new and wonderful flavours. They can experiment and discover new combinations. It worked for me! It’s worth a try and you can enjoy fresh smoothies too!

Here’s a simple recipe:

1/2 banana sliced

3-4 strawberries (fresh or frozen)

1 pear chopped

1 tablespoon Greek yogurt

Coconut water (enough to cover the fruit mixture)

Blend the mixture until smooth. Add more coconut water if required. I also use almond milk for more protein instead of the coconut water for a more creamy flavour. I add fresh spinach instead of the strawberries to make a more healthy smoothie.

Have fun experimenting and enjoy making smoothies with your kids!
