Let’s Get Talking is a mental health charity based on the Tuam Road in the Liosbaun Estate. This January they will celebrate their 5th birthday in which time over 2,300 clients have been able to avail of their service. Let’s Get Talking was set up with the sole purpose of working to promote and support mental health and well-being. With a non-set fee, the service is available to everyone.
The service is delivered on a one-to-one basis with individual clients, couples, adolescents and families. People are coping with a lot of stressors. It is important to be mindfully considerate of yourself and your own limitations. There are times when just coping on a day-to-day basis is a lot to deal with.
The service is also moving towards working with groups outside the centre – initially with post primary schools and corporate clients. They are currently putting together a wellness programme with the sole aim of giving people ways to cope with stressful situations. There is a huge need for people to talk. In the 5 years since Let’s Get Talking opened their doors they have found that the most common issues arising are:
- Marriage breakdown
- Financial stress
- Exam stress
To balance mental health with structured aids for both adults and young adolescents is massively important for decision making, enjoying life and making wiser choices.
Let’s Get Talking has also worked with organisations like Pieta House in the past, where an individual may have suicidal ideologies or parents dealing with a young adolescent who expresses suicidal thoughts. Prevention is key and being able to work with people and help them work through issues and move away from thoughts of self harm is at the core of the Let’s Get Talking ethos.
Let’s Get Talking has a core team of dedicated counsellors who provide both general counselling but also excel in specialised areas. From the moment you walk into the centre you know you are in a comfortable and safe environment. For many existing clients, it is both the overall experience of the welcome they receive at the centre and the relationship with their counsellor that impacts so positively in creating the peace of mind they are working towards.
The journey towards finding and creating your own mental wellbeing starts with a phone call and asking for the help you need. Everyone deserves the peace of mind and body that positive mental health brings.
As Let’s Get Talking say: Mental Health Matters
