Synapse a tech carnival

Synapse //a Tech Carnival will take place this Wednesday in the Bailey Allen Hall at NUI Galway. The event will feature demonstrations and talks from some of the the biggest names in the IT industry.

Unofficially started back in 2013, Founder David Renton says of the inaugural event: “It wasn’t very good. So bad in fact that we don’t acknowledge it as the first Synapse.”

The following year Synapse was re-branded with a vision to “facilitate the connection and continuing conversation between [tech] industry professionals and students studying to enter the industry.”

Dave O’Dea took the helm in 2015 (having learned the ropes from Renton the previous year) and the reigns have now been taken up by Emma MeehanDeirdre Ní Choncubhair and their team for 2017.

It is a mark of the continuing dedication of all involved since the first Synapse that the list of tech companies attending this year now includes Amazon.comEricssonSAPMetLifeSchneider ElectricBlue Tree SystemsCiscoAvivaIntel and Avaya.

Over 1,000 students from the university are expected to attend the event throughout the day. Doors open at 11am with the first talk from Ericsson at 12.
